Newbury Residence

  • RDA has been engaged with this property and homeowner for several years, implementing a multi-phased master plan that is still ongoing. The house was recently constructed as a duplex on a half-acre property with virtually no landscape improvements.

The landscape development program includes a series of stepped outdoor social spaces centered around two major elements; a swimming pool and gas fireplace. The homeowner desired a “resort” feel, with very clean lines and a modern look. The sum of the spaces needed to be large enough to host large gatherings, but individually intimate enough for one person to feel cozy and sheltered.

The palette of materials relied on architectural grade precast concrete pavers, mahogany decking, and natural stone veneer applied to the fire feature and retaining walls that double as seatwalls. We took a very soft approach to the planting, utilizing native species in informal arrangements with varying textures.
